The town is usually called Kangarh Mera, Mera being the twin village just opposite to Kangarh. The village is west of Shergarh and can be reached from that route only from the east.
It is a strategic location as it lies in the junction from where the main road from Oghi divides into two, one going to Darband while the other to Karorri. As Darband is a famous tourist spot, the village is known to many people as the starting point of the Darband Road.
Kangarh lies almost 4,000 feet above sea level in the footsteps of the Himalayas, though going downwards towards the Naarr stream the evlevation is lower than 3,000 feet. The coordinates of the town are 34°26'45.57"N Latitude and 72°57'14.76"E Longtitude.
There are quite a few places in the town which are worth mentioning. These include:
A stream named Naarr flowing down to the Indus River passes through the village area. This stream passes through the whole tehsil of Oghi. It provides scenic views and is a popular fishing spot for the residents.
The town is a famous place in the Oghi tehsil as there is a clinic cum dispensary there which caters to more that 4,000 people situated within an approximate 5 kilometer radius.
Also, there was a school set up by the United Nations after the devastating Earthquake of 2005. Now the school has 300 students from around the area who have been enrolled into primary classes and are being given free education and stationary.
The climate of Kangarh is very cold during winters and mild during summers with moderate humid temperatures in the months of June and July. During the winter, the temperature may drop to below 0°C and there is occasional snowfall, especially in January. Even in summer times, the cool breeze coming from the Kala Dhaka mountain range make the weather nice and seldom does one need to use fans or coolers.
Rainfall
Most rainfall occurs during the monsoon season in summer, stretching from May to August.
Decrease in Temperatures
The temperature levels have decreased over the years after witnessing an increase in the last decade of the 20th century. The village had not received snowfall for almost two decades starting from 1988 to 2006 but since 2007 the temperatures have decreased drastically dropping below the 0°C point in December and January thus causing snowfall.
The summer temperatures have also gone down significantly. Even in July, which is considered as the hottest month, the night-time temperatures go as low as 15°C. Thus, the weather remains pleasant throughout spring and summer.
The population of the village is around 300 people. Inhabitants of the village are mainly of Pakhtun descent belonging to the Akazai clan of the Yousufzai tribe. They are originally from Kala Dhaka and have been living in the Kangarh area for the last 4 generations. Their direct ancestors belong to the Shehtoot area of the Kala Dhaka tribal areas with roots in the Mohmand Agency from which their ancestors originally migrated.
The mother tongue is Pushto, but as the surrounding areas are not Pakhtun dominated.
