Member of the eastern Iranian languages is the Pashto also known as Afghani. Primarily spoken by
pashtun’s in Pakistan and Afghanistan as well as by the pashtun’s across the globe. Pashto belongs to
the north eastern Iranian branch of the indo Iranian language family. The number of Pashto speakers
is estimated to be 40 to 60 million across the globe. Afghanistan has two official languages Pashto
being one of the two as per the constitution of the country. Pashto is the first language of about
15.42% of Pakistan’s 170 million people. It’s the main language of the Khyber Pakhtunkhwa, FATA and
northwestern Balochistan.
